Where the money
comes from

Who pays for a party decides who it listens to. This page exists to say what the law requires, what we record, and what you are entitled to ask for.

What the law requires

The rules every
party lives under

These are not BRJ promises. They are Indian law, binding on every registered political party — and worth knowing, because they are what you can hold any party to.

01

Above ₹20,000

₹20,000 से ऊपर

Every contribution above ₹20,000 must be reported to the Election Commission in the annual Contribution Report — Form 24A — with the donor's name, address and PAN. That report is a public record.

02

Anonymous cash

गुमनाम नक़द

Anonymous cash contributions are capped at ₹2,000 from any one person. Above that, the identity has to be on record.

03

Foreign contributions

विदेशी अंशदान

Contributions to political parties from foreign sources are prohibited under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. There is no exception to work around.

04

Accounts and tax

लेखा और कर

Parties file audited annual accounts with the Election Commission. For donors, contributions are deductible under sections 80GGB (companies) and 80GGC (individuals) of the Income Tax Act.

What we record

Every rupee,
from day one

A new party has no old habits to hide. We built the record-keeping to collect what reporting needs at the moment of contribution, not to go hunting for it a year later.

Name, phone, email

Every contribution is recorded against a name, a mobile number and an email address. Nothing is recorded without an identity attached.

PAN at ₹20,000

At ₹20,000 and above, PAN is collected at the point of contribution. The form will not accept the amount without it, so nothing has to be chased later for Form 24A.

A citizenship declaration

Every contributor declares that they are an Indian citizen and that the money comes from lawful Indian sources. Foreign contributions are not accepted.

A receipt, every time

A receipt is issued for every contribution, whatever the amount. It is what you need to claim the deduction under 80GGC.

Online payment is not live yet. For now the donate page records an intention to contribute and the office sends you payment details and your receipt. Figures for money actually received will be published on this page once online contributions open — publishing totals before then would be describing money we have not taken.
What you can ask for

Ask us
for it

Transparency only counts when somebody asks. Here is what we will hand over when you do.

A record of your own contributions

Write to the office with your reference number and we will send you the full record of your contribution and its receipt.

What we have filed with the Election Commission

Our annual Contribution Report and audited accounts can be requested once filed. They are also public record at the Election Commission.

An uncomfortable question

If you think a contribution should not have been taken, ask. Refusing to answer would cost us more than any answer could.
